LILI: Hello, this is CIO Culture Radio from Confucius Institute Online. I am Lili.
LEO: I’m Leo. Happy Chinese New Year, Lili!
LILI: Happy Chinese New Year, Leo!
LEO: This year is the year of tiger in lunar calendar of Chinese.
LILI: Yes, tiger is the third one of Chinese zodiac we also call Sheng Xiao in China. There are some lovely stories about Year of Tiger, in many families of Shanxi province, uncles will give the cloth tiger to their baby nephews to wish them grow up as strong as a tiger.
LEO: In my hometown, Hubei it also has the same custom. But it seems disappeared now.
LILI: Yes, many customs are disappeared as time goes by.
LEO: OK, go back to our topic today- tiger boxing.
LILI: Tiger boxing is a kind of imitation boxing, a boxing technique created basing on the actions and features of tigers.
LEO: So, it seems tiger boxing come from tigers’ survival skills?
LILI: Kind of. Every individual got its specific survival skill. Tiger boxing belongs to Southern Boxing category. It is also called “Yongfu Tiger Boxing”, you know, it came from Yongfu County in Fujian Province.
LEO: It is named as place-name.
LILI: Yes.
LEO: Who created it?
LILI: Li Yuanzhu, a guy from Yongfu County during the period of Emperor Qianlong in Qing Dynasty.
LEO: You are well-read and know so many things about it. Can you show me how to play it?
LILI: I am a good knowledge-leaner, but, for tech… well, you can find out more at kungfu.chinese.cn and then you can decide which Kungfu category to learn.
LEO: Is that a school website?
LILI: no, kungfu.chinese.cn is a systemic site to display cultures of Chinese Kungfu, you can find any information you want, and what I’d like to share with you is the culture and data section. They provide detailed and comprehensive information.
LEO: That is cool.
LILI: Yes, and you know what? It is bi-language form in Chinese and English.
LEO: Useful. By the way, do you still remember the picture you send to me last time? You painted a big animal on the paper.
LILI: Yes, it cost me a whole day!
LEO: I never find any mouse in my home after I put it on the wall.
LILI: You, never wanna I send you anything anymore! What I painted is a tiger not a cat!
LEO: It’s just a joke.
LILI: So from all of us here at CIO Culture Radio. Thanks very much for listening and goodbye.
LEO: Bye!
